FAFSA Streamlined for 2010–2011

The U.S. government introduces a new application that asks fewer questions.

In January 2010, the United States government announced a shorter and simpler Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application form. Every academic year millions of students file the FAFSA, known by many for its complicated questionnaire.

The 2010–2011 FAFSA application includes 107 questions in the paper form. If students fill out a FAFSA online, they are able to skip unnecessary questions. For the first time, low-income students are able to bypass questions on financial assets, since that information is not required to determine their eligibility for financial aid.
